Watchmen Release Date Assured, WB Out Cash/Points
As we mentioned here, the release of the “most un-filmable story of all time WAS at risk. Â Now it seems some Jedi were used to force a settlement and WB will only have to pay one more star’s gross participation. That would be Fox.Â
The deal hammered out today sources say will earn an upfront cash payment for Fox to the tune of between 5-10 million plus reimbursement of 1.4 milion in development and millions lost in legal fees.
Sources close to the agreement said Fox also gains a “gross participation” in Watchmen that amounts between 5-8% depending on global revenue.
In a jointly released statement the studios said  ”Warner Bros. and Twentieth Century Fox have resolved their dispute regarding the rights to the upcoming motion picture “Watchmen” in a confidential settlement. Warner Bros. acknowledges that Fox acted in good faith in bringing its claims, which were asserted prior to the start of principal photography.
Fox acknowledges that Warner Brothers acted in good faith in defending against those claims. Warner Bros. and Fox, like all “Watchmen” fans, look forward with great anticipation to this film’s March 6 release in theatres.”
Just when WB turned away from the podium however, Fox was overheard saying “nanny-nanny boo-boo”
